Gera Sector Pay Gap Index — Methodology
as of April 2025updated annually (last: )How is the Gera Sector Pay Gap Index (GSPGI) calculated?
The Gera Sector Pay Gap Index (GSPGI) measures how much each UK industry sector pays relative to the UK all-industry full-time median of £39,039 (ONS ASHE, April 2025). Formula: GSPGI = (sectorMedian − ukAllMedian) ÷ ukAllMedian × 100, rounded to one decimal place. Positive = above average; negative = below.
Formula
National Index (GSPGI)
GSPGI(S) = round( (ukMedian(S) − ukAllMedian) ÷ ukAllMedian × 100, 1 )
Regional Gap
RegionalGap(S, R) = round( (regionMedian(S,R) − ukMedian(S)) ÷ ukMedian(S) × 100, 1 )
- ukAllMedian

- SIC sections T and U are excluded (fewer than 8 unsuppressed regional cells).
- Northern Ireland is excluded: ONS does not publish region × SIC sector for NI in Table 5.
- Where a sector page shows fewer than 11 regions, the missing entries are ONS-suppressed and withheld rather than shown as zero.
