## Tips for career-switcher CVs in 2026

1. **Lead with the new direction, not the old job title.** Your personal statement should make it clear in the first sentence what role you want, not what you used to do.
2. **Map skills, don't list them.** The transferable-skills table does the recruiter's translation work for them. Without it, the recruiter has to guess — and they usually guess "no".
3. **Pre-emptively answer the gap.** Career breaks and switches trigger the same automatic suspicion. Naming the reason in one line removes the suspicion before it forms.
4. **Use the new vocabulary.** Read 5 job ads for the role you want and steal the exact phrasing for your statement, transferable skills, and bullet points. ATS systems weight keyword overlap.
5. **Network in addition to applying.** Career-switch hires happen at 3x the rate via internal referral than via the open application pipeline. The CV gets you the introduction; the conversation closes the move.
